when an arborist prunes a limb off a valuable tree,?
why does he paint the cut surface??
what does the tree paint do???
The paint is supposed to seal the wound against fungal or bacterial infiltration. That was the school of thought a number of years ago. It has since been learned that it is better to leave a clean pruning wound open, and let the tree’s natural healing process work. It was found that the paint trapped bacteria and fungus in the wound. If an arborist is using paint on pruning wounds, they aren’t up to date with current horticulture practices.
