Are there any good indoor climbing walls in London?

I currently live in the Peak district and go climbing several times a week. There are some wonderful indoor climbing places to choose from here, and in the summer months I’ve started going outdoors as well. I’ve recently heard I may have to relocate to London. A friend of mine told me there are no proper climbing walls in London, just some very small ones. According to her, the only climbing walls in London are small and lower than 10 metres. She also said there is no possibility to climb outdoors within an hour’s drive from London. Is that true? Do I really need to give up climbing when we move to London?

Nope, definitely won’t have to give up climbing!
The Westway is my favourite climbing wall in london. I think the walls here are higher than 10m, and the overhangs are huge and defintiely longer than 10m. This is out Hammersmith way, by latimer road tube station. It is a huge place with many routes, many hard routes, and I’ve seen the British climbing team train here (climb up an 8a, climb down a 7c+, hmm…) They recently (last year) opened a really hard bouldering room here in addition to the easier bouldering.

My next favourite is The Castle. This is a very interesting place, with so much variety, and many different rooms with different stuff going on. Again, I’m pretty sure some of the walls are at least ten metres. There’s a lot of interesting bouldering here too. This is near manor house tube stop.

There is also Mile End, which I think is mostly bouldering, may have a few routes – I haven’t been.

And Craggy Island 2, a small bouldering place.

Depending on where you are living, there are other places nearish london, e.g. guildford and oxford.

There isn’t much outdoor That close to london, but southern sandstone in kent (i think kent?) isn’t too far, avon/cheddar gorges are around two hours away, portland/swanage are 2.5… again depending on hwere you live.

so there is quite a lot to choose from!
