How do rock climbers get their rope up to the top of what they’re climbing?

I mean, how do they get the anchor and rope up to the top of the rock?
I’ve never been rock climbing or known someone who has.
It’s just one of those things I’ve always wondered about.

They have a lead climber that lay down the rope. He basically climb up with minimal protection, he places anchors at certain intervals along the rock.
