Any outdoor climbing / bouldering in the greater Pittsburgh area?
Im going to the Elizabeth Elrama-Finleyville area "in the south of Pittsburgh in December. I wanted to know if there's nearby climbing areas, including some small blocks. I looked at pictures satellite in the region, but havnt seen much. I know every gym, but want something that is out. Any help woud
Depends what you mean by "close." Most of the rock in Allegheny County is good friable beds of limestone and slate and sandstone unstable. There are a few trenches roads and isolated outcrops Some people use it. There are even building walls and pillars of the bridge trying to urban climbers (always risky because attentions of the local police). However, there are many large areas of rock climbing rope and are willing to drive 40 minutes one hour. Among the best Coopers Rock State Park are just across the border in northern West Virginia (hundreds of increases up to 80 feet) and McConnell Mills State Park north of Pittsburgh, near I-79 and Route 422. Piedras Blancas, south of the Union is well known, too. I went to all these in the past and anything that offers beginner code question 5.1 5.12 A2 spaces, closing crack width friction climbing.
